Chasetown 0 Chesham 0

A lukewarm game on a hot afternoon saw precious few chances as Chasetown played out a goalless draw with Chesham United in the BGB Southern League Division 1 Midlands.

The visitors had the first chance, when a run down the left saw the ball fall to Sammy Winston, who beat a challenge from Richard Teesdale but his weak shot went straight to keeper Ryan Price.

A Dom Marsala free kick on 10 minutes also went straight to Price, before a period of back and forth play in midfield ended with another Chesham free kick. Winston tried to get his head to it, but the ball went out for a goal kick.

Chasetown's first chance came on 18 minutes, when a run by Wayne Dyer down the left saw his effort blocked by keeper Bobby Smith and head across the empty goalmouth.

A Winston cross was then headed away by skipper Adie Smith, but the ball came back in for Dave Fotheringham to head goalwards with Price once again on hand to save.

Adie Smith then halted a run by the division's leading scorer Danny Burnell with a fine challenge, before a Gary Birch free kick for the Scholars found Dean Perrow who was denied by John Kyriacou.

The second half began with a chance for Walsall loanee Harry Harris for the home side, before a Mark Branch free kick found Perrow who tangled with Fotheringham, but Chasetown's penalty appeals were turned down.

Several minutes of slow play followed, before a Scholars corner saw Dyer and Mark Branch's low efforts blocked, as was Perrow's moments later.

Dyer then sent another chance straight at Bobby Smith, and a little later a Perrow corner was cleared to Lee Parsons who sent a long range shot over the bar.

Burnell threatened several times for Chesham, but John Branch countered every chance as the visitors began to run out of steam. Danny Smith crossed to Dyer late on, but his shot once again went straight to the keeper.

With two minutes to go, Burnell fired into the net from close range, but the linesman's flag was up.

The Scholars are back in FA Cup action this Saturday as they take on fellow Division 1 Midlands side Rothwell Town.

Kick-off at the Scholars Ground is at 3pm.
