Tight Lines - Angling by Phil Dixon
The fish in the lake will have to feed hard soon surely as the fishing has been tricky again this week with a few really good bags and a few blanks. The rod average was 2.1 for the week with some cracking rainbows and brownies starting to show.
Nick Dunn from Manchester had a fine day, catching a total of 10 fish including a fully finned 10lb rainbow which was safely returned to the water. Nick fished from a boat mainly down the Cavers Arm and around the Cascade to pick up his fish, Nick was using an Intermediate line with a black and green lure.
Mark Gately and boat partner Gray Mitchell had a fine day as well this week catching 18 fish between them on a variety of methods and flies but sinking lines and a white Minkie proved to be most successful. Mark and Gary were drifting the open water down Cavers to catch most of the fish but did catch a few around the cage.
A few more bank anglers have been catching the odd fish this week mainly on white lures around the boat jetty, Sailing club and off Verdun’s point, but there are fish in Flamingo Bay.
Top patterns have mainly been white with the odd fish still coming out and Buzzers and Dries. The browns have started to show well again now with two 6lb fish coming off the bank. The season for killing brown trout is over now so all browns must be returned safely to the water.
