Ladies end strongly
Slazenger England Hockey League
Women’s Conference West
Cannock Ladies 4
Swansea Ladies 0
Cannock Ladies welcomed Swansea in their next Slazenger Conference West league game. The home side were starting to find the right gears to play and were looking forward to a competitive game of hockey at Chase Park. It was the visitors who started the better, putting the home side under some pressure, which were soaked up before Cannock started to counter back.
After a number of attacks, a penalty corner was awarded and Lucy Spencer’s shot found Lucia Gascoigne’s stick to fly into the roof of the net and put the home side 1-0 up after 18 minutes.
There was only a 1-0 score difference at half time but Cannock came out in the second half looking to secure all three points. Cannock had the majority of the play and pressured the Swansea defence which held strong until the 47 minutes, when Lucy Spencer found the net in open play.
This opened the doors for Cannock to continue to apply pressure and Ellie Watton added a further two goal to the score line and her tally from a penalty corner and open play in the 55th and 69th minutes respectively to give Cannock the three points and place them second in the table.
The Slazenger England Hockey League has a weekend off but a number of Cannock’s youngster will be showing their skills in the England Hockey Futures Cup on 31st October, 1st and 2nd November at Cannock Hockey Club.
