Tributes were paid to the wife of Cannock Council Chairman John Beddows at the first full meeting of the council after her sudden death two weeks ago.
Maureen Beddows died just hours after attending a first civic ceremony with Cllr Beddows, who had just been elected to chair the council for the year.
Cllr Mick Grocott led the tributes passing on his condolences to Cllr Beddows and calling for a minute’s silence.
Cllr Mike Holder said: “To have lost someone so loved in these circumstances is terrible. Please accept out condolences and support at this tragic time.”
Cllr Beddows, Chairing the first meeting since his wife’s death, said: “I want to thank each and every one of you for the support and guidance you’ve given to me, and my family.
“The cards now number about 220 at my house. What people have said about my wife is absolutely wonderful. She was a very special person.
“There are times I don’t know how to carry on, but she would want me to carry on, and that’s why I’m here today.
