Trees for Burntwood plan

In years to come Burntwood folk could be walking through avenues of trees along the main routes to the town centre and Chasewater Country Park.

Plans are in hand for tree planting to take place as part of Lichfield District Council's 'civic tree planting scheme'.

District council chiefs are now consulting with local councillors to get their views on The Burntwood Avenues Project.

The scheme would be financed through section 106 monies which are generated as part of new developments.

The aim is to start planting on a 'step by step' basis as and when funds become available. The first stage involves over £16,300 from three different section 106 agreements.

Burntwood councillors support the scheme - but point out it should not detract from other projects in the town, for example ringfencing 106 money for a new community centre.

There are no detailed plans available at the moment, but consultations will take place with Highfields, Chase Terrace and Chasetown councillors.
