CCTV plea after yobs fire rifle

Councillors June Perrin and Craig Bougen with one of the bullet-damaged cars

A Huntington councillor is calling for CCTV on a village estate after thugs took pot shots at his car with an air rifle.

Parish councillor Craig Bogan believes his car had been targeted by the same people responsible for a hate campaign against 65-year-old June Perrin of the Dog in Tree Estate.

The Huntington pensioner has had ammo from a World War II German Luger dropped through her letterbox twice last month - and this week culprits scaled her back garden fence in the early hours to place another 9mm bullet on her doorstep.

Councillor Bogan said the situation called for the extra protection.

“It now seems the time to ask for CCTV on the Dog and Tree Estate,” he said.

“The problems we are having seem to have intensified over the last few weeks. I know of other families that are also having problems. We need to monitor the actions of people on the estate.

“This is a cause for concern.

“I know the Benion Road area of Cannock is covered by CCTV after problems in the last few years and, in my opinion, this estate is worse.”

Councillor Bogan believes his car has been targeted because he promised to look into who was causing the pensioner problems. The councillor said he even found a air cannister used to expell pellets rammed in the pensioner’s hedge outside her home.

“I definitely believe my car was shot at because I was helping the family. Only last week I found a cannister outside June’s house. After that my car was targeted”

“Something needs to be done to stop these problems.”

Mrs Perrin believes CCTV is the only solution to the problem.

“We need a record of who comes and goes on the estate,” June said.

“I have CCTV myself, but they are getting round that because they know what area it covers.

“If nothing is done then somebody is going to get seriously hurt.

“I fear for my safety because I have to look after my elderly mother and have concerns about what they will do to my property when I am away.”

PC Andy Heaton, beat officer for Huntington said he was aware of the incidents involving June and Cllr Bogan and investigations are ongoing.
