It’s being billed as ‘the region’s gay wedding of the year’.
Cannock’s celebrity psychic Mystic Ed ties the knot with his partner Brian Murphy at Stafford Register Office on Saturday (November 8).
Ed Ward (aka Mystic Ed) and Brian (known as Spud) will be attending a special civil partnership ceremony in what looks set to be a celebrity-style glitzy affair.
The couple have known each other for over three years.
Over 40 guests, family and friends are expected to attend the elaborate event - which will see both partners wearing wedding outfits they have designed themselves.
Mystic Ed promised: “It’s going to be really colourful and eye-catching.
“We wanted to do something that reflects our lifestyle and also the craft of wizardry in which we are both qualified.”
Guests have been asked to dress on the theme of Hollywood glamour - so ‘spectacular outfits’ are expected, he said.
The couples’ wedding rings are replicas of those in the Blockbuster movie Lord of the Rings and their engagement rings have been specially designed. Both include Tibetan spinning prayer wheels and are engraved with ‘Om mani padme hum’ (behold the jewel in the Lotus) and contain all the teachings of Buddha.
The rings have been blessed by renowned artist Gonzalo Bernard from Barcelona and at the Chalice Well, Glastonbury, the Trevi Fountain in Rome and on the steps of Birmingham Art Gallery.
The pair will spend their honeymoon at the clifftop Camelot Hotel in Tintagel, Cornwall - an area steeped in Celtic history.
Even the date of the ceremony is significant. It will be a full moon (which bodes well in the wizardry world heralding the start of ‘something new and hopeful’).
But Mystic Ed confesses it’s not all glamour nowadays.
“I’m more interested in making tea at home for my man than I am in showbusiness,” he said.
He said he has been in showbiz all his life and regards it ‘a privilege to be able to use my special gifts’ to help people.
Anyone who knows the couple can congratulate them outside the Register Office.
A reception will take place at The Bridge House, Penkridge.
Staffordshire has seen several ‘civil partnerships’ take place since they were introduced - and they are increasing in popularity.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for safer and stronger communities said: “This event is going to be good fun and glamorous. It’s really exciting to be a part of that and for us to be able to conduct the ceremony.”
Ed and Spud are active gay and equal rights supporters, working closely with the police, agencies and community groups.
