A local campaigner has repeated calls for pelican crossings on two Roads in Heath Hayes and Wimblebury.
Chris Collis called for the measures as last week’s Heath Hayes, Norton Canes and Rawnsley Community forum.
He said the amount of traffic and speed of cars makes it dangerous for pedestrians, including school children, to cross John Street, Wimblebury, and the Cannock Road, near Five Ways Island, in Heath Hayes.
Chris told the meeting: “Highways said two years ago they were looking into it and would see what they could do.”
District Cllr Les Bullock said a crossing would help pedestrians, and reduce speeding on the roads.
He said: “We desperately need a crossing on that road. You can wait and wait to cross that road.”
Cllr Pat Ansell said: “It’s very important we keep going with this. The only way we got Littleworth Road done was to keep at it. We need to keep going to the County Council, that’s the way to do it.”
Cllr John Jillings, Chair of Forum and Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities at Cannock Council, said a petition handed in to the County Council in December had already paid off.
LED speed signs are about to be installed on the Cannock Road after he collected over 100 signatures in the area.
But he says the crossings are needed and he has been in touch with the county authority on the issue.
Newly elected County Councillor John Rowley told the meeting: “I have been looking into this. We’ve only just come into power and when everything is sorted out I’ll look into it more.”
