Campaigners pushing for safety works at Chasewater dam have received commitments from senior officers of Cannock Chase Council to ensure that they receive regular briefings on works.
Lichfield District Council is undertaking work on the dam over the summer and campaigners are concerned about its effect on Norton Canes residents.
The effect of the works on the Cannock Chase area had gone unnoticed until Labour councillors pressed for better liaison with the neighbouring authority and information for local residents.
“Labour members raised this with Council officers as a matter of urgency at the Shadow Cabinet,” Cllr Mike Holder said. “We have requested officers of Cannock Chase to arrange site visits involving Local Members and Lichfield District Council so that we can monitor the ongoing impact of the works.
“We were concerned that Cannock Chase Council was not being proactive enough on this and leaving it to Lichfield District Council, but the works are bound to have some impact on Norton and we want to make sure any concerns are being addressed sooner rather than later.”
For Norton Canes, those who have access to the internet, information can be obtained via www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/chasewaterdamblog.
However if residents have concerns, they can contact Joss Presland, Cannock Chase DC Waste and Engineering Services Manager on 01543 462621.
